That's a Wrap for the Beijing Academy

Well, the time has finally come for your kids to come home. They will be boarding the plane tomorrow and are very excited to see you. While there were tears shed at the graduation ceremony as friendships are now facing distance, the students had a great final day with a nice, fancy meal.

The End is Near

From buying fake luxury goods to learning about Chinese comedy, the activities have finally come to an end. On Monday, the kids got to explore Beijing’s largest fake market where many students now have a new closet of clothes.

On Tuesday, we met with one of China’s most famous comedians who taught us China’s special style of Chinese comedy. He even showed us some of his unreleased projects and added the kids on WeChat!

Day Trip, Mahjong, and the Beginning of the End

The newly instituted evening cell phone check-in policy has improved general group dynamic and student program experience already. Students are engaging with each other more.

This past weekend was yet again filled with many activities that allowed them to explore the ancient city of Beijing! First, we went to the Ming Tombs where we saw the underground palace of one of China’s emperors. We saw some of the artifacts and some of the items that were buried with him.

Food, Food and…More Food?

Location: Nanluoguxiang, Drum & Bell Towers, Qianmen and Dashilan

The theme of the excursions for the past couple of days has been, “Streets that allow the students to shop, eat and explore!” All of the locations mentioned above, excluding the towers, are streets that have many of China’s coolest street foods and best shopping! The kids were able to taste many different types of cuisines and able to rest in different tea and coffee shops. Of course, many found the Starbucks and rested in the air conditioning.

A Sacred Art

The kids have been attending Chinese class and Cultural Exploration classes for the last few days. Not only that, but the kids have been attending some fun activities. First, the kids went to HouHai where they explored the plethora of snacks and then after wrote an essay in Chinese on a snack of their choice.

Conquered the Great Wall of China

What the Beijing Academy did this weekend: Over the weekend, the students conquered the Great Wall of China. They walked three miles on a non-renovated, authentic part of the wall. After the wall, the students were allowed a lot time to reflect on how the language pledge is affecting their time in China.

More Famous Beijing Excursions

What the Beijing Academy has been up to: Yesterday, we took the students to dance, sing karaoke, and interact with Chinese elder people in the parks. The students are very tired but in the most rewarding way possible.

What the Beijing Academy Did Today: The students visited Yuyuantan Middle School today. It was very fun for students. I could tell that MIL students really enjoyed playing basketball, ping-pong, soccor, and badminton with Chinese students. We won the basketball game again this year! Yeah!

What the Beijing Academy did this past weekend: This past weekend we explored some of the most famous locations in Beijing! We went to the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, Summer Palace, Pearl Market and saw an amazing acrobatics performance. We had a great time and will be off to the great wall next weekend. What the Beijing Academy did today: The Language Pledge® started and things have been pretty quiet around here. Today, the students had their first Chinese-only meal with their teachers and went to the Chinese National Museum!
