Virelangues et bouffe (tongue twisters and food slang)

July 17, 2019

Don't forget our Call Home Time tonight from 8:30 to 10pm local time.

Language: French

Location: Nantes

Since our last blog entry on Monday, the Nantes Academy has been quite busy.

Tuesday morning, our two Level 3 classes partnered to hold elections for the new mayor of Nantes. They created signs and discussed their electoral program. All candidates promised the mandatory installation of Air Conditioners at Blanche de Castille and on the buses, which made our teachers and Academic Director laugh.

On Tuesday afternoon, our students participated in a Blanche de Castille Soccer Tournament with our RAs. The students who did not wish to play either watched and supported their team, or used the opportunity to go to the small market across the street to stock up on Petit Beurre biscuits.

Tuesday evening we had a French-Canadian themed dinner in anticipation of our guest speaker of the night: Krysteena Gadzala, who was here to tell us about French Canadian culture, music and accents. We feasted on poutine and maple syrup cakes before discovering the history of French presence in Canada, trying to guess what some local words (now disappeared from France French) mean and creating flags that represented our bilingualism.

This morning, our students headed to their language classes where they discussed the culinary culture in France, practiced some virelangues (tonguetwisters), studied the imperative and changed the world with great ideas on how to improve the daily lives of Nantes citizens.

After their cultural classes this afternoon, they will once again be divided in 3 groups to visit the Arts Museum, have some free time downtown or participate in a cooking class.

You’ll hear all about it tonight during Call Home time, from 8 to 10:30pm (French time)!
