Tea Time & Lake Days with the Arabic Academy

July 15, 2019

Language: Arabic

Location: Saint Michael’s College

What the Arabic Academy did today: It’s officially the start of our last week here at SMC. Arabic students had a jam-packed weekend of field trips to Branbury State Park and a Moroccan Tea House. This week, students will take their STAMP tests again to assess their language progress. Outside of the classroom, activities with RAs this week include drawing, dabke lessons, soccer, volleyball, chalk murals, and an all-academy swim session. Here’s a look at the can-do statements for the week:

Level One is exploring body and clothing, including: “I can recognize the names of some parts of the body,” and “I can describe what I wear in each season and for different occasions.”

Level Two’s theme is maps and the environment. Their can do statements include: “I can identify and name a variety of countries and languages in the world,” and “I can identify and name 3‐5 major environmental problems confronting the world today, and the target country/countries in particular.”

Level Three is focused on the environment and world events. Their goals include: “I can identify the main idea and a few supporting facts in an article or other forms of media related to environmental problems confronting the target country/countries.”
