What the Spanish Academy did today:
The field trip to Middlebury was a success! Students participated in a photo scavenger hunt on campus before attending a traditional Flamenco performance. Yesterday, they attended their usual classes. Evening activities included fútbol, mural painting, an escape box, and a game of “Cabeza Arriba.” Today will also follow the normal schedule of classes, but students will be able to attend a concert with the “Orquesta Latina”!

Level 1 students are still learning how to speak about bodies and clothing. They can now select and match physical symptoms to an illness. They are also able to identify/name 3-5 common illnesses and physical discomforts.

In Level 2 classes, students learned how to extend, politely accept, or decline invitations. They practiced listening to voicemails, answering texts, and reading texts/emails/letters that communicate plans. Tomorrow, they’ll be learning how to compare and contrast teenage social culture in Spanish-speaking countries and their own.

Level 3 students learned how to prepared notes about transportation, lodging, sites, and food options in Spanish-speaking countries. Tomorrow, they’ll learn how to give directions from one place to another and follow audio/written directions by tracing a route on a map. If your families ever visit the Hispanic world, you can now have your own personal tour guide!

In Level 4 classrooms, students are focusing on culture in Spanish-speaking countries. Today, they made presentations about cultural events or traditions and their historical origins. Tomorrow, they will read movie summaries, chose movies they want to watch, and explain the reasons for their selections.
