The weekend is here!

It’s Saturday! And you know what that means...rest!

After a full week of classes, students earned a well-deserved day of rest, in which they had the chance to catch up on sleep and relax with their friends.

Although there were no classes being held today, there were still several activities going on around the campus. Here is a brief overview of some of them:

Saturday School...for the Chinese Academy!

Due to their trip to Burlington yesterday, students from the Chinese Academy didn’t have a typical Saturday—instead, they attended classes, making up for the ones that they missed the day before.

However, none of the students complained about this. They brought their enthusiasm and intellectual curiosity to each class, excited to continue their lessons from Thursday.

Communicating through music and dance!

Our students at the academy are making huge strides communicating using Spanish everywhere and at anytime. But that's not the only way they are getting to know each other.... They are also using music and dance to express themselves here at the academy! Last week, they had a weeklong cultural exploration class, Baile Latino, where they learned Latin dances, such as merengue, bachata, salsa and cumbia. These kids quickly learned how fun it is to dance with a partner and they showcased what they learned on one of the academic assemblies on Thursday evening....

Cultural exploration classes: Beyond language learning

Painting, Extreme Napping and Presentations

Today was another eventful day at the Summer Academy in Poultney, Vermont! Students participated in many activities both in and outside of class.

Some highlights of the day included a new activity called "extreme napping" and the Arabic Academy's Evening Assembly in which groups of students performed skits, songs and dances for their peers to enjoy! These assemblies usually take place once a week in each academy and provide a platform for students and teachers to share their learning with one another.

Hard Work Pays Off

For the Chinese Academy, hard work pays off.

Students and teachers are already noticing a tremendous amount of improvement in just a bit over a week of immersion—better yet, students are finding that they’re no longer thinking about speaking Chinese… they’re thinking in Chinese!

This improvement, however, has not come easily—it has come with hard work, dedication and a personal drive to learn the language that is unique to every student.

Thursday with l'Académie Française

Today, students had their typical class schedule—however, the classes themselves were anything but typical. Ranging from tie-dying t-shirts to creating mini sculptures, today’s classes were engaging, interactive and distinctly fun!

Here’s a list of what went on in today’s classes:

Student Interviews...from the French Academy!
