What the Chinese Academy learned today:
We had a big outdoor pool party on Wednesday for the Fourth of July. This was a great way for students to cool off after classes. The lunch choices for the cookout were; hotdogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers, pasta salad, potato salad, and popsicles. After the pool party, students boarded the bus to Essex to watch fireworks. The town held a nice festival with a live band, pizza, face painting, balloon animals, and snow cones.
Level one classes have been learning food vocabulary and phrases. They are learning to say what they like and dislike, how to describe a food item, and how to carry on a simple conversation during meals. Level two classes are learning about directions, shopping, and food. Level three classes are learning about culinary culture and shopping. They listen to audio recordings and learn tasks such as; mailing a package or buying a movie theatre ticket. Level four classes have been learning about social issues and solutions. They have been researching and summarizing social issues from their target country.
Last night, students had a pool party at the campus gym. Tomorrow will be Field Day, where the Spanish and French Academies will be coming to SMC for a day full of outdoor activities and light-hearted competition.
