Making Progress with the Spanish Academy

July 10, 2019

Language: Spanish

Location: Saint Michael’s College

What the Spanish Academy did today: Happy Wednesday! With only ten days (wow!) left until student departure, now is a great time to review those “Can do” statements that our students are working on each week. Here are the goals for our Spanish students this week:

Level One is working on clothing and the body. Their can do statements include: “I can give a simple physical description of a person,” and I can use words and simple phrases to tell someone how I feel physically and emotionally.”

Level Two is exploring sports, hobbies, and events. Their can do statements include: “I can write basic instructions on how to plan an outing with friends,” and “I can compare and contrast teenage social culture and practices in the target culture(s) to my own.”

Level Three’s week is focused on travel and tourism. Their statements include, “I can ask for and provide descriptions of places I know and places I would like to visit,” and “I can follow audio and written directions by tracing a route on a map.”

Level Four is exploring social issues and solutions including, “I can summarize stories about issues that are important to youth in target country/countries, and their aspirations for the future,” and “I can present solutions currently in place to address this social issue and the impact it has on the target culture.”

Outside of class time this week, students are preparing for their trip to Dartmouth College, where they are visiting the Hood Museum of Art. During their nighttime activities, the Academy is holding art-focused grammar and vocabulary session to prepare them for their visit.
