Fun Weekend of Field Trips with the Arabic Academy!
Location: Saint Michael's College
What the Arabic Academy did today: Over the weekend, the Arabic Academy had a fun, sunny outing to downtown Burlington where students had free time to shop and explore. On Sunday, students reaffirmed their commitment to the Arabic Language through a second Language Pledge™ ceremony. Today, the students returned to their regular schedule and rotated through a series of new Cultural Exploration classes!
In today's classes...
Level 1 students practiced their interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational communication skills. Their can-do statements included "I can copy the letters of the alphabet (del-zaay)" and "I can state my name, age, and where I live."
In Level 2 classes, can-do statements included "I can read and understand maps from the target culture(s) and my own," as well as "I can give simple directions on how to get from one place to another and what to do at each location." They practiced finding their way around a city using maps, giving and listening to directions in a game of "Hide and Seek," and identifying locations on a digital tour of Burlington.
Level 3 students focused on the same communication skills, but their can-do statement for the day was: "I can understand audio recordings and video about everyday life in the target country/countries." They compared and contrasted city and country life in the US, as well as in other countries.
We are excited to see our students grow over the course of Week 2!
