Departure Day Details
It’s hard to believe our time here at MMLA is almost up! It feels like we all just got here yesterday. Students will inevitably be sad to say goodbye to their new friends, but I’m sure many of them are eager to see friends and family back home. As we wind down, everyone is looking forward to a busy last day with our graduation ceremony and a final dance celebration tonight where they will finally be able to speak English again. All in all, things have gone quite smoothly this summer and the intellectual curiosity and maturity shown by the students in all academies has been impressive.
To gear up for our departure day on Thursday, I wanted to post some general information to make sure everyone is on the same page regarding departure day.
Approximately half of our students are flying home and we have organized shuttles for them all to get to the airport in plenty of time to account for LA traffic. For family or friends who are picking up students, we ask that you arrive between 9:00am - 12:00pm and to come to the same general location where students checked-in around the Smith Campus Center (the nearest GPS address is 225 E. Sixth Street, Claremont, CA).
Students will be waiting outside in the area between the Smith Campus Center and the Smiley building with their luggage so you will not need to go get students atthe dorm. Everyone will be ready to go after 9:00am (Please do not arrive earlier than 9:00am as we will still be running around - please wait until 9:00am so we can ensure our staff has had time to eat breakfast and is able to have time to check out students). If you aren’t able to make a pick up until closer to 12:00pm, we’ll have activities to keep students busy and many of them will relish the time to get a few more minutes talking to their new friends.
Students will get their cell phones and other electronics back when they check out with their RAs after breakfast at 9:00am (or if they are on an earlier shuttle to the airport, they will get their equipment back before getting on the shuttle). RAs will make sure that the phones for all students will be fully charged before the students depart campus.
If you have any questions about anything regarding departure day, please feel free to send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org or call us in the office at 909-607-2362.
Best wishes for the remainder of your summer!
