Castle Life for a Day!
Bonjour des châteaux de la Loire,
After exploring le Mont Saint Michel and Saint Malo last Saturday, students had a chance to discover some of the most beautiful castles in the Loire Valley this past Saturday! We wanted to share this incredible day with you.
We started off the day early to make the most of it. We made our first stop at le château d’Ussé. It is said that Charles Perrault had this castle in mind when writing the fairy tale “Sleeping Beauty.” It also inspired Walt Disney in the creation of many castles in his famous adaptations of classic fairy tales. It goes without saying that our students lived a real-life fairy tale that day!
We then made our way (under the sun!) to the second castle of the day not far from there: le château d’Azay-le-Rideau. It is a magnificent structure surrounded by water. The visit focused on the 16th century and the historical context surrounding Francis I of France.
Once back on campus, the super RA’s organised a dance party for the students. The dress code was all in white and they all had a lot of fun dancing to French music.
We hope you enjoy these photos and stay tuned for the start of week 3! This week students are learning about French gastronomy. They will learn how to make bread and have a cooking class where they learn to make two French desserts, and they will visit the Musée LU, located in the Château de Goulaine. This museum traces the history of a local brand of cookies eaten all over France, les gâteaux LU. They will also prepare for their upcoming visit to the Puy du Fou amusement park, a historical theme park that has repeatedly won prizes for being the best theme park in the world!
