What the Beijing Academy did today:
This weekend was as busy as ever. Saturday morning students took a crash course in Ancient Chinese history as we visited the Ming Tombs outside Beijing. We strolled through verdant gardens and ornately decorated streets which lead up to the burying sites of past Ming Dynasty emperors. Students got a chance to walk through an sixteenth century underground mausoleum of a Ming Emperor. On Saturday night, students channeled their artsy sides in our Beijing Night Gala which was organized and hosted by a committee of students. Each class got together for a Chinese musical performance. Some performances features top notch choreography while others featured students playing instruments.
On Sunday, students explored the 798 Art Zone which is a nexus Beijing artists. Formerly a series of military factories, the district now features art galleries and trendy shops. Today, students headed into their last week of classes. In the afternoon students haggled for Chinese antiques and other wares at the Pan Jia Yuan market. Check back on Wednesday to read more about the Beijing Academy!
