“Skyscraper”, “United”, "Squirrel" - Favorite New Words In Arabic At SMC

Today in honor of our third weeking being underway, I asked our Arabic students to show me their favorite new word that they have learned in Arabic (plus the English translation). Below are some of the results, and check out the slideshow above for a complete album of student responses! 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Here is an update on where the levels in both the Arabic and Spanish Academies are in the curriculum during Week Three: 

 

Spanish:

Level One:

Theme: Body, clothing

Example: I can describe what I wear in each season and for different occasions.

Level Two:

Theme: Sports, hobbies, events

Example: I can write basic instructions on how to plan an outing with friends.

Level Three:

Theme: Travel and Tourism

Example: I can read and understand basic information in travel brochures and travel websites about a target city.

Level Four:

Theme: Culture in Target Country

Example: I can make a presentation about a cultural event or tradition and its historical origin.

 

Arabic:

Level One:

Theme: Food

Example: I can identify and name 5-10 food items I eat.

Level Two:

Theme: Sports, hobbies, events

Example: I can identify social do’s and don’ts in target country/countries.

Level Three:

Theme: Travel and Tourism

Example: I can ask for and provide descriptions of places I know and places I would like to visit.

Tomorrow, students have a not-so-ordinary day in store! Arabic will head out on a field trip to Middlebury College while Spanish visits the beach for the day. Stay tuned for updates on an exciting day of field trips tomorrow.
